International Colloquium: Women's Empowerment through Community Sanitation and Democratic Participation Takes place at: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus December 17-19, 2018.
The UNESCO Chair in Gender Equality & Women's Empowerment & the Center for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham will host a three-day event in partnership with the UNDEF Women Empowerment team at AMMACHI Labs.
The primary goal of the colloquium is to bring together international experts, professors, policy makers, NGOs, UN partner organizations, technocrats, and researchers to take part in serious thinking, spirited dialogue, and debate on the latest issues that surround empowerment of women in a sustainable development context. The colloquium will highlight issues around vulnerabilities of women along 6 thematic areas: Education, Healthcare and Sanitation, Conflict and Security, Economics and Livelihood, Socio-political environment and legal issues, and Disasters and Climate Change. The colloquium will feature keynote lectures, round table discussions, and invited paper presentations and workshops before and after the colloquium. As a part of the UNDEF Project, women’s self help groups from 21 villages across India will also attend and take part in a discussion on policy formation.
We hope to share and create knowledge about frameworks, technological and social tools, best practices, case studies, and methodologies for sustainable development. Areas of collaboration will be identified and formalized including signing of MoUs and extending the University Twinning and Network Program (UNITWIN) for regular interaction and exchange of information and experience; planning and implementation of joint activities with a meaningful plan of action for implementation in the upcoming years.
- To provide a multidisciplinary, international platform for academics, researchers, social workers, (villagers), policy makers, entrepreneurs, professionals from industry and NGO/ GO, and UN partner organizations to collaborate, share and create knowledge about frameworks, (technological) tools, best practices, and methodologies in education for sustainable development.
- To identifying gaps, prioritising and initiating a dialog to make educational interventions more effective and efficient
- To planning and implement joint activities along with partners with a meaningful plan of action for implementation in the upcoming years
- To share case studies and field experiences. Partners and their teams would showcase some of their research projects and case studies from the field
