Bio

Dr. Ayan Kumar Banerjee is currently serves as Research-Track Assistant Professor (Sr. Gd.) in the School of Artificial Intelligence at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore.

He earned his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology (IIEST), Shibpur (formerly BESU Shibpur), followed by an M.Tech in Atmospheric-Oceanic Science & Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. He completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in 2020. Subsequently, he held postdoctoral positions as a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Tel Aviv University, Israel, and as a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. He has a few years of industrial experience, having worked as Technical Manager and Head of Engineering at Tardid Technologies Pvt. Ltd., where he led AI-driven projects in structural health monitoring for defense applications. Earlier in his career, he also served as an assistant engineer at Foster Wheeler Bengal Pvt. Ltd.

Dr. Banerjee is open to any research collaboration.

Dr. Banerjee’s research interests encompass Geophysical & Environmental Fluid dynamics (focusing on Rotating Convection – convective processes in planetary and stellar system, Transport of microplastic in marine environment etc.), Collective motion (focusing on the orientation dynamics of microswimmers, self-organization behavior of active particles etc.), Biophysical and Biomedical flows (Bacteria transport), Machine Learning in Fluid mechanics. His work integrates numerical simulations and analytical approaches to advance understanding in these areas.
