Bio

Dr. Swapna T. R. is an Associate Professor in School of Computing at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore. She completed PhD from the School of Medical Science and Technology (SMST), IIT Kharagpur, in Computer Vision for Medical Imaging and MTech in Computer Science and Engineering from NIT-Kozhikode. Her research interests are in Medical Imaging, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Big Data and Healthcare Analytics. Her doctoral Thesis in the ophthalmology domain examined the possibility of developing an automated system for detection and diagnosis of diabetic maculopathy (retinopathy affecting the macular are of the eye) using Fundus Fluorescein Angiogram (FFA) images. She teaches courses in Deep Learning, Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Modelling and Visualization, Computer Graphics, Medical Imaging, Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Computer Graphics and Big Data Analytics or various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the University She is working with undergraduate students in Hypertensive retinopathy. She is currently involved in developing interpretable models for diagnosis and grading of retinal colour fundus images affected with diabetic retinopathy and various lung diseases in Chest X-rays (CXR). She also works in enhancement of medical images and low light images.
