As of May 2010, one thousand three hundred and seventy-three graduating students from the three Amrita Schools of Engineering at Amritapuri, Bengaluru and Coimbatore were placed in different engineering and software companies.

“As per the directive from NASSCOM, placement season this year began in December 2009 after students completed their penultimate semester of studies,” informed Mr. Srikanth, Placement Manager at CIR in Coimbatore.

The Center for Corporate and International Relations (CIR), coordinates placements for engineering and MCA students across the three campuses. Students from all campuses converge at one campus, usually Coimbatore, during placement weeks.

This year, some of the 40+ companies who recruited from Amrita, visited the Amritapuri and Bengaluru campuses instead, and students from all campuses traveled to these respective campuses for placement.

Prominent companies that recruited Amrita students included software firms such as Microsoft, Accenture, CTS, Infosys, IBM, HP and Patni Computers. Engineering companies such as Caterpillar, L&T, Titan, Sundaram Fasteners, Dow Chemicals and Tata Advanced Materials also recruited in large numbers.

“Over 80% students from core engineering disciplines were placed in the core sector,” stated Mr. Srikanth. “Several students received multiple offers.”

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Coimbatore was the first Amrita department to achieve 100% placement. The Department was awarded the CIR Prize for Excellent Performance, as Prof. Parameshwaran, Director – CIR congratulated its Head of Department, Dr. Joshi C. Haran and team.

Placements“Dear Sir, thank you for awarding this prize,” Dr. Haran stated, in his reply. “But it is your team’s hard work that has made this possible. We express our gratitude to CIR.”

100% placement was within reach of several other Amrita departments as well. Overall, 96% students were placed from the Coimbatore campus and 95% from Bengaluru.

From Amritapuri campus, 86% students were placed; several of the top graduating students opting to continue with higher studies.

“Our placement statistics over the past three years consistently show 95% + placements,” remarked Mr. Srikanth. “Many companies return year after year, wanting to recruit more of our students. They tell us that Amrita students always perform extremely well at the workplace.”
