The Amrita Centre for Allied Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Department of Emergency Medicine, Amrita School of Medicine, organized a one-day IV Cannulation Mastery Workshop for the B.Sc. Physician Associate 2021 batch interns. The workshop was conducted with the support of BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), one of the world’s largest global medical technology companies.
The session was facilitated by Mrs. Vincy, Area Manager at BD, who shared her expertise and practical insights with the participants. The workshop was divided into two parts – a comprehensive theoretical session and an intensive hands-on training component.
The theoretical session introduced students to the importance and clinical indications of IV cannulation, medico-legal considerations, and professional responsibilities. It also included a review of peripheral venous anatomy, cannulation techniques, catheter selection, patient preparation, and effective communication strategies. A detailed video demonstration further illustrated the procedure.
During the hands-on training, each intern practiced IV cannulation under close supervision, with emphasis on proper step-by-step execution, error correction, and strict adherence to aseptic techniques and patient safety protocols. The practical exposure allowed participants to refine their skills and gain confidence in performing the procedure in real clinical environments.
The workshop was a significant learning experience for the Physician Associate interns, equipping them with essential clinical competencies and reinforcing Amrita’s commitment to high-quality skill-based healthcare training.
