The NORKA ROOTS Satellite Centre at the College of Nursing, was inaugurated at Amrita Health Sciences Campus, Kochi marking a significant step in providing global learning opportunities for students. This initiative, established under the governance of NORKA ROOTS, the first department of its kind in India registered with the Ministry of External Affairs and licensed by the Protector General of Emigrants, aims to equip nursing students with proficiency in the German language, opening doors to international career opportunities.
The Satellite Centre at Amrita makes the university the third in South India to host the facility, which is designed to deliver accredited foreign language courses in German and English through high-quality training provided by a Satellite Centre Agency (SCA) appointed by the NORKA Institute of Foreign Language (NIFL). The program aligns with NORKA’s standards, ensuring students gain practical and globally relevant language skills.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Shri M. Anil Kumar, Hon’ble Mayor, Cochin Corporation, who lauded Amrita University’s commitment to providing international exposure to its students. Key dignitaries present included Ms. Rosamma Jose, Director, NORKA ROOTS Satellite Centre; Prof. Sheela Pavithran, Vice Principal; Dr. K.T. Moly, Principal, College of Nursing; Dr. Aswathy S, HOD, Department of Community Medicine; Bri. Sai Bala M, Nursing Director, Amrita Hospital; and Dr. Anila K.P., Professor.
During the event, Dr. Prem Nair, Provost & Group Medical Director, Amrita Hospitals, along with other senior faculty members, addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of foreign language proficiency in enhancing student employability and global mobility. With this collaboration, Amrita University continues to strengthen its mission of integrating international exposure and skill development into its academic programs, empowering students to thrive in a globalized healthcare environment.
