Amrita Health Sciences Campus, Kochi, observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse with a significant initiative, the “Human Chain Against Drugs.” Organized by the Amrita College of Nursing, the event brought together faculty and students from the Amrita School of Pharmacy, Amrita Center for Allied Health Sciences, Amrita School of Dentistry, and Amrita School of Medicine, along with members of the Amrita Nursing Services, to form a powerful human chain.
The event was inaugurated by Shri. T. N. Sudheer, Assistant Excise Commissioner of Ernakulam, who emphasized the vital role of the medical community in combating drug abuse. He reiterated that efforts must extend beyond awareness to include the establishment of de-addiction centres to rehabilitate children trapped in the grip of substance abuse. Shri. Sudheer also took the opportunity to administer an oath to the students, urging them to commit to a drug-free life.
Dr. K. T. Moly, Principal of Amrita College of Nursing, welcomed the attendees with an opening speech. Other dignitaries at the event included Dr. Sabitha M., Principal of Amrita School of Pharmacy; Dr. Rakesh, Vice Principal of Amrita School of Dentistry; Prof. Sheela Pavithran, Vice Principal of Amrita College of Nursing; and Shri. C. V. Vinayakan, General Manager at Amrita.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Professor Lt Col. Dr. Ajee K. L. of Amrita College of Nursing. Despite heavy rainfall, over 700 participants stood united in the human chain, demonstrating their commitment to ending the cycle of drug abuse and promoting a healthier society.
The initiative was a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility to fight the menace of drugs and work towards a drug-free future.
