Amrita Sustainable Livelihood & Disaster Resilience Program inaugurated its new Skill Development Training Center at Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Meppadi, Wayanad. This initiative has been launched with a special focus on supporting the landslide-affected communities of Wayanad by equipping them with sustainable livelihood skills and creating new opportunities for self-reliance. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Samshad Maraikkar, District Panchayat President, who served as the Chief Guest, and was presided over by Sampoojya Swami Vedamritananda Puri, Abbot of Amma’s Meppadi Ashram. Meppadi Grama Panchayat President K. Babu and Ward Member Harris C also attended, extending their full support and encouragement to the program.
In his address, Mr. Maraikkar highlighted the uniqueness of this initiative, noting that it goes beyond merely providing tools by also offering the training required to use them effectively. This ensures that participants can build lasting skills to sustain themselves and their families. The program’s first phase will provide training to 60 participants in tailoring and 30 participants in computer skills, specifically in MS Office and Tally, both of which have high demand in today’s job market. By focusing on these areas, the center aims to create livelihood opportunities, encourage entrepreneurship, and empower women and youth within the community.
