Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Observes World Cleanup Day 2025 Across All Campuses as Offering for Amritavarsham 72

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham joined the global observance of World Cleanup Day 2025 with large-scale cleanliness drives organized across all its campuses — Amritapuri, Coimbatore, Kochi, Bengaluru, Nagercoil and Faridabad. The initiative was held as a sacred offering in connection with Amritavarsham 72, the 72nd birthday of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).

Thousands of students, faculty, doctors, administrators, and staff took part in the mass drives, cleaning campus premises, hospital surroundings, villages, and nearby public spaces. The movement was conducted in alignment with Amma’s vision of a clean, green, and compassionate world and as part of the Amalabharatham Campaign (ABC), launched by Amma in 2010 to promote environmental responsibility, waste management, and civic awareness.

At Amritapuri Campus, cleanup efforts extended to nearby panchayats in Kollam and Alappuzha districts, with awareness and afforestation activities. The Coimbatore Campus mobilized nearly 3,000 students and 300 staff members across seven locations, integrating cleanup drives with volunteers also planting saplings to reinforce the message of environmental protection. At the Kochi Health Sciences Campus and school of arts, humanities and commerce, students, doctors, and staff focused on hospital and campus surroundings, while the Bengaluru Campus carried out mass drives within and around the university grounds. The Faridabad Campus organized its drive in association with local environmental groups, emphasizing cleanliness as a yajna — a sacred act of service.

This year’s initiative carries profound significance as it comes just one week ahead of Amma’s 72nd birthday. Amma has always emphasized that selfless service to nature and society is true worship of the Divine, and that cleanliness must become an integral part of daily life. Echoing Amma’s teaching that “Every small act of care strengthens our collective journey towards sustainability,” the World Cleanup Day drives reflected the University’s commitment to integrating values of seva (selfless service) with practical action.
