Students at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Amritapuri campus gained valuable practical exposure to advanced neuroscience technologies during a one-day hands-on EEG workshop organized by AMMACHI Labs. The session was conducted for 26 Semester 2 students from the Cognitive Science and Learning Technology (CSLT) Master’s programme, along with several PhD scholars.
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a widely used technique that records the brain’s electrical activity through sensors placed on the scalp. The workshop aimed to bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world application, enabling participants to work directly with professional EEG systems.
The session was led by Rahul Gupta from Aerobe Pvt. Ltd., who introduced the fundamentals of EEG technology and highlighted its key research and clinical applications. Participants then moved into an intensive practical segment, where they were trained in configuring actiCAP snap electrodes and recording real-time EEG signals using the LiveAmp system with BrainVision Recorder.
Further strengthening their analytical skills, attendees were introduced to basic EEG signal processing using BrainVision Analyzer. The training covered artifact rejection through Independent Component Analysis (ICA), time-domain analysis using Event-Related Potentials (ERP), and frequency-domain analysis using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT).
The workshop concluded with enthusiastic participation from CSLT students and PhD scholars. The hands-on experience significantly enhanced their technical competencies and confidence in applying EEG technology for academic research and future professional work.
