Across Amrita Serve villages in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and West Bengal, Community Organizers (COs) trained by The Centre for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality (CWEGE) serve as vital connectors between rural citizens and the government services they are entitled to. Working at the grassroots level, COs provide personalized support conducting awareness sessions, helping with documentation, coordinating with local officials, and following up consistently to ensure that villagers can successfully access a wide range of government schemes and services they are entitled to. Our facilitation of government schemes has created significant impact in healthcare access, identity documentation, financial inclusion, social security and livelihood enhancement.
Through our CO’s consistent outreach and hands-on support we are making social inclusion a lived reality helping villagers claim their rights, access services, and participate fully in public life. In communities where paperwork, distance, or digital barriers often prevent people from applying for support, AMMACHI Labs and CWEGE ensure that no one is left behind.
Progress in Numbers for 2024
At the heart of this effort is a women-led model of community development. All our COs are local women who, after receiving regular mentoring and training from CWEGE’s regional managers, go on to serve as liaisons between the community and local government bodies. This dual role not only equips them with practical leadership and communication skills but also builds their confidence as agents of change.
On the ground, they’re not only delivering critical services but also transforming the way government programs are experienced, ensuring women in the households are better informed, better represented, and more actively participating in claiming their entitlements. The model fosters women’s empowerment at both ends, those accessing the benefits and those enabling them.
