Amrita International School of Law (AISL) conducted a significant and stirring program titled Azadi ka Samvidhan: Tradition Inspiring Transformation to celebrate the 75th Constitution Day on 26 November 2025. The distinguished guests, together with faculty members and students, joined hands for a reflective talk on India’s constitutional heritage and its everlasting relevance in shaping the nation’s future.
The event commenced with the Lighting of the Lamp, which was followed by an introductory speech by Ms. Anchal Jaiswal, wherein she emphasized how the Constitution represented a harmonious synthesis of India’s civilizational wisdom and contemporary ideals of democracy. Prof. (Dr.) Anil G. Variath, in his Welcome Address, stressed the role of Constitutional Literacy in fostering responsible legal education. Felicitations were formally exchanged to acknowledge the distinguished dignitaries.
The Chief Guest Address was delivered by Shri P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, who presented a comprehensive and contemplative analysis of India’s journey with its Constitution. He talked about the Constitution being a continuum of the philosophical and cultural heritage of India, but also a dynamic instrument for democracy, empowerment, and social justice. His speech featured an insightful examination of landmark constitutional cases, the evolution of the basic structure doctrine, the expansion of fundamental rights, and judicial interpretations that have enriched democratic governance over the decades. He went further to stress that the Preamble acts as a moral beacon to guide national development and pressed upon the citizens and legal fraternity to undertake active vigilance in defending the values of the Constitution.
Participants then gathered together to recite the Preamble in unison, re-dedicating themselves to the ideas within the Constitution.
Prof. (Dr.) A. Lakshminath, Guest of Honor, delivered a speech with a discussion on the development of constitutional morality and its effects on constitutional interpretation. He said that the Constitution is a living document, which keeps updating itself with a change in society, but with unchanged values. He also cited a few landmarks to show how, from time to time, constitutional law has been developing to realize the values of freedom, equality, and proper governance in the country.
While sharing insights with the audience Prof U. Krishnakumar from the University of Sydney focused on the relationship between the Constitution and Institutions. He emphasized that, in addition to the Constitution providing direction for the establishment and maintenance of nstitutions, the Constitution has greatly affected how we view these things in relation to each other. He suggested that there were several significant cases regarding the relationship of fundamental rights to the workings of each of these other elements.
Adv. Anoop Kumar Nair concluded with remarks on the importance of ongoing academic study of Constitutional History and Jurisprudence, and Mr. Pranav Kushwaha delivered the Vote of Thanks.
The programme therefore enhanced the AISL Intellectual Community and the understanding of constitutional philosophy; increased awareness of important cases, and firmly established AISL’s commitment to developing well-informed and responsible legal professionals. In addition, it connected with the transformative vision of the Indian Constitution and its value and encouraged both students & teachers to incorporate the enduring values of the Indian Constitution into their Academic and Professional activities.
