Mass Beach Clean-Up in Rameswaram Unites Navy, Community, and Civil Society

In a powerful demonstration of unity and environmental responsibility, the AMMACHI Labs Ocean Farming Team, together with the Indian Navy (Rameswaram Base), the Rotary Club, temple staff, and yoga students, organized a mass beach clean-up campaign in the sacred coastal town of Rameswaram.

Impact of the Campaign:

  • 0.308 km of beach cleaned
  • Collaboration between community, defense, and civil society
  • Participants took a pledge to keep oceans clean

The event was further strengthened by the leadership of Navy Lieutenant Commander Shri Dinesh Kumar, who mobilized his team and extended support to this and other ocean conservation initiatives throughout the week.

Speaking to the spirit of the day, participants emphasized that collaborative action is key to reversing damage to fragile marine ecosystems and restoring balance to nature. As Amma reminds us: “Earth is our Mother; Nature is our Mother. We should not forget our duty toward them.”

The Ocean Farming projects are implemented by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, in partnership with Transworld, the GEF Small Grants Programme (Operational Phase 7), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
