Ms. Meenu Vijayan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Amrita School of Pharmacy received the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Merit Award and the Pain and Symptom Management Special Merit Award (valued at $1000), at the prestigious ASCO 2025 Annual Meeting, held in Chicago, USA during 30th May – 03rd June 2025. These awards were presented by Conquer Cancer®, the ASCO Foundation, in recognition of the scientific quality, innovation, and potential impact of Ms. Meenu’s research in the field of oncology.

She also delivered an oral presentation of her Ph.D. research abstract titled “Phase III Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial on Repurposing of Olanzapine for the Prevention of Radiotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting (RINV)” during the event. Her work stood out among over 7,500 global submissions, making her one of only five recipients worldwide of the Special Merit Award — and notably, the sole awardee representing the Asian region.

Her research abstract will be published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, a leading Q1, Tier 1 journal with an impact factor of 41.

Ms. Meenu carried out her research under the mentorship of Dr. Debnarayan Dutta (Professor and Head, Department of Radiation Oncology, Amrita Hospital, Kochi) and Dr. Narmadha M. P. (Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacy Practice, Amrita School of Pharmacy, Kochi) in a project funded by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Shealso received travel grant support from ICMR and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), India for attending the conference.
