Samskrtavani Mahotsava 2025–26 : A Six-Day Spoken Sanskrit Camp at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus

The Department of Languages, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus, hosted Samskṛtavāṇī Mahotsava 2025–26, a six-day Spoken Sanskrit Camp held from September 2nd to 10th, 2025.

The camp was inaugurated by Padmashree Vidushi K S Jayalakshmi, Chief Editor of Sudharma Sanskrit Daily, the world’s only Sanskrit newspaper. In her inaugural address, she emphasized the need to preserve and promote spoken Sanskrit as part of India’s timeless cultural heritage.

The Valedictory Function on September 10th marked the grand finale of the camp with a cultural extravaganza entirely in Sanskrit. Beneficiaries of the camp performedBhagavad Gītā chanting, music and dance. The play titled Vidya Vijayate, authored by Dr. Srikanta Parida and directed by Vidwan Shrikrishna K was also staged. Addressing the gathering, Vidushi K S Jayalakshmi applauded the students’ zeal and announced that prize-winning essays from the camp would be published in Sudharma. Winners, namely: TM Abhishek,I B.Com., IF (1st Prize); Nagabhushan Hegde, I BCA, DS – ‘G’ Section (2nd Prize) and Rachana Bharadwaj, I B.Com., IF(3rd Prize) were felicitatedand the students shared their reflections on the enriching experience.

The camp drew over 50 students from different programmes. Resourceful sessions were conducted by Vidwan H S Manjunath, Dr. Srikanta Parida and Vidwan Shrikrishna K, while competitions in poetry and essay writing gave students a platform to showcase their creativity.

Br. Anantaananda Chaitanya, Director, Amrita Mysuru;Br. Muktidamrta Chaitanya, Amrita Mysuru;Dr. GRavindranath, Principal; Prof. Shekar Babu, Associate Deanand Dr. Rekha Bhat, Chairperson, Department of Languages, were also present on the occasion.

The six-day celebration not only enhanced linguistic skills but also rekindled a profound love for Sanskrit, leaving participants with cherished memories of learning, culture, and collective celebration.
