As artificial intelligence rapidly reshapes economies, governance, and everyday life, a critical question is gaining urgency: who gets to shape the future of AI? Ensuring meaningful representation of women across the AI lifecycle is no longer optional—it is essential to building an equitable and inclusive digital future.
At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, in partnership with UN Women India, UNESCO, LinkedIn, The Quantum Hub, and Women for Ethical AI (South Asia Chapter), will host a high-level session titled “Women in AI: A South Asia Outlook on Representation, Equity & Empowerment.”
The session will convene policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, civil society representatives, and practitioners to examine how AI ecosystems across South Asia can be made more inclusive, ethical, and representative. Discussions will focus on closing gender gaps in AI education, skills development, workforce participation, leadership, and research—while also addressing structural barriers that limit women’s access to emerging technologies.
A key highlight of the dialogue will be insights from the forthcoming “Gender & AI Outlook Study for South Asia (2025)”, jointly developed by UNESCO and the Women for Ethical AI network. The study presents one of the first consolidated, data-driven baselines on women’s representation across the AI value chain in the region, offering critical evidence to inform policy and institutional action.
The session will also draw from the UN Women–LinkedIn Women and Future Jobs policy brief, which examines how AI and digital transformation are reshaping women’s economic opportunities across South and East Asia—highlighting both risks of exclusion and pathways for empowerment.
By grounding conversation in data, lived experiences, and regional realities, the session aims to move beyond rhetoric and toward actionable strategies that ensure women are not just users of AI, but co-creators and leaders shaping its future.
