program overview

The MTech program in Geospatial Technology and Artificial Intelligence involves collecting, processing, analysing, and disseminating spatial information. The discipline incorporates observations collected in-situ, through remote sensing as well as using IoT- based systems, development of geodatabases, visualization using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, and application of advanced algorithms and models. Utilisation of advanced analysis techniques such as AI provides the potential to automatically recognise patterns and forecast future events related to specific areas and issues. Besides, environmental monitoring utilizes this technology to track changes in ecosystems, optimize infrastructure development, evaluate the effects of natural disasters, and efficiently coordinate restoration and relief activities.
This program incorporates the power of artificial intelligence in geospatial information processing, bringing cutting-edge technologies together in a multidisciplinary curriculum. The students will learn to become a valuable part of the national and global efforts to resolve societal challenges in diverse areas such as intelligent agricultural practices, sustainable water availability, disaster management and risk reduction, urban development, environmental pollution, etc, to achieve community resilience and sustainable development of the society.

Learning Experience

The program emphasizes experiential and application-driven learning through:

  • Hands-on laboratory sessions
  • Training with satellite imagery, UAV data, sensor-based IoT systems, and spatial databases
  • Project-based coursework provides valuable experience in applying geospatial intelligence to solve real-world problems

Students obtain valuable industry or research experience, and enhanced practical skills through industry/academic internships. They get opportunity to participate in hands-on research projects, frequently collaborating with national and international experts on cutting-edge research topics.

Program Outcomes

  • PO1 : An ability to independently carry out research /investigation and development work to solve practical problems.
  • PO2 : An ability to write and present a substantial technical report / document
  • PO3 : An ability to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per the specialization of the program
  • PO4 : An ability to bridge the gap between academic research and social needs

Program Specific Outcomes

  • PSO1 : Collect and process geospatial data from laboratory, field, and remote sensing platforms for real-world applications in Earth Science and earth observation domains
  • PSO2 : Apply critical thinking and analyze problems from a spatial perspective
  • PSO3 : Integrate geospatial analyses with artificial intelligence techniques to develop sustainable solutions for societal challenges.
