Workshop on Child Protection and Anti-human Trafficking
Amrita social work students, Amritapuri, campus, got an opportunity to interact with eminent social workers Shri. Praveen Patkar and Smt. Priti Patkar, the pioneers of pathbreaking social interventions in India. They are the co-founders of ‘Prerana’, an NGO globally recognized for its initiatives in child protection and anti-human trafficking.

Winter Internship
All First year students had their winter internship for the first time in various places. 4 students were placed in M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation (MSCTRF), Madurai, working for the rehabilitation of the mentally ill and challenged. The students spend a month in this organization to get hands-on training and field exposure. |

Ph.D scholar participated in IWPG – International Womens Peace Group, Network India which was held on19th Nov2015 at the Women’s Christian College, Nagercoil in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, the southernmost area of India hosted by the IWPG Women Leaders’ Peace Committee Kanyakumari District with PURA as the leading organizer. IWPG is an international non-profit organization for women with ten million members across 1000 affiliates and branch offices in 170 countries widely recognized for its convening and campaigning capabilities. |

Mr. Nachiappan our alumini addressed our students on 6/11/15 on the topic of Entrepreneurship in social work. He is the founder of Autism Care, Coimbatore. He enlightened the students on the procedure to start an NGO and the opportunities that social work has in India. |

Mission Zero Exclusion
As part of Amrita SeRVe project, Mission Zero Exclusion initiative was started during November 2014. It was for bringing the disabled in the mainstream assisting the disabled gain self reliance and dignity. Mr. Rajendran lost a limb in an accident.The initiative and intervention of Amrita SeRVe, Mission Zero Exclusion, he was taken to government hospital, Coimbatore facilitated to obtain Disability identity card, wheel chair and artificial limb. To provide a means of livelihood to him a Petty shop was inaugurated on 17th September 2015 in Ettimadai village. |

Supporting the Amritapuri Cyber Security Department on ‘water irrigation research’
The team headed by Prof. Shiju Sathyadevan from Amritapuri Cyber Security Department wanted the farmers do water irrigation research. They were making three trips during August. & September. 2015 and we supported them to identify the suitable farmers. Farmer Mr.Palanisamy with required infrastructure in Ettimadai was linked with the team.The research was successful and the device was launched during Amma’s birthday. On this occasion the farmer was felicitated in the function and on behalf of the farmer his relative Mr.Karthick attended the function. |

Awarenees programme on Free legal aid
Awareness programme on free legal aid services was held at Periyar Nagar, Saravanampatti, Coimbatore on 10.08.15. It was jointly organized by District Legal Services Authority, District Child Protection Unit, World Vision India – Coimbatore, Dept. of Social Work – Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Coimbatore. Mr.Jaganathan, Secretary, District Legal Services authority spoke about free legal aid. Mrs.Rexlin (Protection officer – Non-Institutional care), District Child Protection Unit spoke about child safety and protection. Mr.Vetriselvan John, Co-ordinator, World Vision India Coimbatore co-ordinated the event. The First and Second Year MSW students performed street play on child and women safety. |

Amrita Centre for International Programmes (ACIP)-Live in Labs programme at Idukki, Kerala
Five II MSW students and 5 students of Ryerson School of Disability studies, Canada participated in the L – I – L (Live In Labs) programme at Komalikudi, Bison Valley, Idukki Dist. Kerala from 1st to 13th August 2015. The students interacted with the village community and exchanged thoughts and ideas. Our students also benefited from the interaction with international students. |

Training on Organic Farming
As part of Amrita SeRVe project, a seven-day training programme on “Organic Farming towards Self-Reliant Sustainable Agriculture” was conducted from 05th to 11th August 2015 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus. There were six rounds of pre-training meetings to select the interested farmers and finally around 26 farmers from the nearby villages were given opportunity to take-part in the training programme. Eminent professors and successful farmers handled the sessions for the farmers. Dr. G. Free Tuition class was inaugurated on 24th July 2015 by Br.Anil Varma at Muruganpathy tribal village. Dr. Sriram and Br. Shamugam also joined for the inaugural function. Ms. Nithya was selected as tuition teacher. About 20 students from the village are to be benefited. |
