Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science), the global leader in trusted insights and analytics for research and innovation, announced the 6th edition of the India Research Excellence-Citation Awards-2017, recognizing and honouring research excellence in the country on different fields and Dr. R. Jayakumar, Professor at the Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, has received this award under the “Medical & Health Sciences” discipline. The awards were held at Sheraton, New Delhi, on November 3, 2017.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has signed an MoU with Uppsala University, Sweden, for extending research and educational exchanges and joint activities between faculty members and departments in both institutions.
Dr. Vijay Harish Somasundaram, Assistant Professor in the Department of Nuclear Medicine, presented a part of his doctoral work at the 15th annual ANMPI (Association of Nuclear Medicine Physicians of India) conference held in association with the ICC (Indian Cancer Congress) 2017 conference at Bangalore, from November 8th to 12th, 2017.
Amrita faculty members, Mr. Prashant R. Nair, Vice Chairman, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, and Dr. K. V. Shriram, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Coimbatore, have authored a textbook, Software Project Management, published by the reputed publishing house, Narosa.
Amrita faculty member, Mr. Shyam Diwakar, Director, Computational Neuroscience and Neurophysiology, and Associate Professor at Amrita School of Biotechnology, was invited to give talks at IIT Hyderabad and IIT Madras on August 17th and 23rd August, 2017.
The AMMACHI Labs (Amrita Multi Modal Applications Using Computer & Human Interaction) inaugurated the newly constructed Research Center and new Amrita Makerspace on 24th August, 2017.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham faculty members was awarded a grant of Rs. 37.24 lakhs from the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) for developing a novel electrochemical packed bed reactor technology for removing heavy metals from water.

Ram Manohar, Research Director, Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda, Amrita School of Ayurveda, was invited to deliver a talk titled, “From Bench to Bedside: Research on Cancer in Ayurveda at Amrita University”, on May 23, 2017, at the National Cancer Institute, Shady Grove, Bethesda, Maryland, USA.

Ram Manohar, Director, Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda (ACARA), attended the Second International Conference on Integrative Medicine: Role of Yoga and Ayurveda on the theme “Role of Yoga and Ayurveda in Pain and Addiction Management”.
The AmritaCREATE Team of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, is one of eight semifinalists advancing in the $7 million Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE presented by Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The Adult Literacy XPRIZE is a global competition, challenging teams to develop a mobile application for existing smart devices that results in the greatest increase in literacy skills among participating adult learners.
