Amma’s Mentorship Reaches the Students of Haridwar Campus, Guiding them in the Journey of Life as a Student

Amma, Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, recently conducted an online interactive session with students of the University’s Haridwar campus, which is our tenth campus, and where the first semester opened in September. The event was a rare opportunity for students to gain direct access to Amma.

During the course of the session, Amma shared eternal wisdom about the need to live in the present moment, be focused in one’s thoughts, and be emotionally robust—a philosophy which is the core of the educational system adopted at Amrita University. The students asked some pertinent questions to which Amma gave wise advice knotted with deep spiritual insight.

Emphasizing the importance of the current situation, Amma said we can only take meaningful action if our mind is fully engaged with the activity happening in the present moment. She urged all the students to apply themselves fully to their studies, to be fully engaged in the current situations, rather than dwelling in the past or worrying about the future.

This will ensure that while highlighting the need for concentration, Amma used an example of a horse that uses blinders to make it focus on the path it needs to take. This way, she taught students to eliminate distractions and stay focused, enabling them to achieve their goal.

Responding to queries about the issues of loneliness and emotional issues that many young adults can sometimes go through, Amma told students that even as each one of them goes about on his or her own journey, being human, all human beings are, in fact, connected in a very basic, elemental way.

Amma stressed the importance of mental strength and perseverance, encouraging students not to be dependent on anything external for strength or happiness. She said life itself is ever-changing, dynamic. Real strength comes from inside. Yet, in spite of adverse circumstances, she urged them to go on with courage and with clear ideals.

She then explained three elements needed for successful outcomes: right action in proper timing, sincere effort, and divine grace. Though effort is controllable by human will, Amma continued to say that there is also the factor of grace, which is affected by past karma and current actions.

The session aptly showcased the commitment of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham to not just fostering academic success but also character, compassion, and self-awareness, building a holistic educational philosophy. Amma’s mentorship became a great source of motivation for the students of the newly formed campus at Haridwar.
