The Amrita Awareness Ambassador (AAA) Program was developed by Amrita CREATE based on Amma’s vision to protect children by educating them on critical issues such as substance abuse, human trafficking, and the misuse of mobile devices and the internet.
The program equips young people with the essential knowledge and leadership skills required to tackle critical health and social issues, for instance, beginning with a focus on alcohol and drug abuse awareness. This initiative aligns with the goals of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, a nationwide campaign by the Indian government to create a drug-free India.
By integrating these vital lessons into the school environment going beyond traditional academic subjects this approach helps students develop a strong moral compass, empathy, and a sense of social responsibility. By addressing societal challenges through this program’s framework, it safeguards not only the health and future of our youth but also builds a more conscious and resilient society.
Recently, our team organized two-day sessions at Amrita Vidyalayam, Mangalore, and Amrita Vidyalayam, Belgavi, Karnataka. The first day of the program was dedicated to selecting and training student leaders. Following an induction program that outlined the initiative’s goals and themes, a debate competition was held to identify student leaders.
Students from the 9th standard were selected based on their communication skills, leadership potential, and passion for social awareness. In the afternoon, these selected students participated in a comprehensive training session. They were given roles, trained on the content about alcohol and drug abuse, and coached on public speaking to prepare them to lead their peers.
The second day the ambassadors showcased the true potential during student-led sessions. They successfully conducted interactive awareness sessions for 8th and 9th-standard students. Using engaging methods like PowerPoint presentations, video discussions, storytelling, and trivia games, they created a dynamic learning environment.
The program was highly praised by students, teachers, and school authorities for fostering a culture of peer learning and youth leadership. This success highlights how empowering youth with the right tools can create a ripple effect, positively influencing their entire community. The training was led by Mr. G. Abhidev of Amrita CREATE.
