Amrita CREATE’s Capacity Building Program for Teachers: Advancing Professional Growth

A series of Capacity Building Programs (CBP) focusing on Professional Growth and Development was conducted across three Amrita Vidyapayalams across Karnataka in November 2025. Sessions took place in Amrita Vidyalayam Mangaluru (11–12 November), Amrita Vidyalayam Karwar (15–16 November), and Amrita Vidyalayam Belagavi (19–20 November), engaging a total of 60 educators.

This program forms part of a larger effort to support the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and directly advances Sustainable Development Goal SDG 4 (Quality Education), which calls for inclusive, equitable lifelong learning opportunities. By strengthening teachers’ professional competencies, the CBP reinforces the critical link between teacher development and improved student learning outcomes.

Session two centered on “Domain 3: Professional Growth and Development”, a priority area under CBSE’s capacity-building framework. The training challenged teachers to move beyond traditional, rote-driven approaches and adopt experiential, competency-based pedagogy. Participants explored what it means to create nurturing classrooms, support socio-emotional learning, and guide students toward future pathways.

Three thematic areas shaped the training:

  • Happy Classrooms: Educators discussed methods for building emotionally safe, student-centered environments that encourage curiosity, belonging, and academic engagement.
  • Stress Management: Teachers engaged with strategies to recognize emotional distress and promote resilience and well-being among learners.
  • Career Guidance: The program strengthened teachers’ ability to mentor students in identifying strengths, interests, and emerging career opportunities aligned with a rapidly evolving world.

Across all venues, teachers participated actively in reflective dialogue, sharing classroom experiences and solutions. The discussions emphasized the educator’s role not only as an instructor but as a mentor equipped to support academic progress, emotional well-being, and informed decision-making.

By promoting holistic development, real-world competencies, and value-based education, the CBP supports the transformation of classroom practice envisioned by NEP 2020. This initiative positions teachers as key catalysts for student success and strengthens institutional progress toward SDG 4.
