Amrita School of Business at Coimbatore hosts its 17th national level B-fest Pragati

Amrita School of Business at Coimbatore had organized its annual B-fest Pragati from February 7 – 8, 2014. The b-fest attracted nearly 300 talents representing from over 30 leading business schools around the nation.

Addressing the delegates during the inaugural ceremony, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Chlorophyll Mr. Kiran Khalap shared valuable insights on three creative models of business. “The Vishwamitra model is where businesses live in complete denial, the Yudishtra model is where businesses stand by truth whenever it’s favorable and finally the Ekalavya model is the unbridled stance.”

Underlining the role of business to society, Dr. Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Prof. Shrikant G. Kulkarni, Chairperson, Amrita School of Business and Prof. Udayakumar C. S., Professor, Amrita School of Business were the other speakers at the inaugural ceremony.

The soul of Pragati 2014 was Business beyond Profit with the key areas Smarter Planet, Shared Planet and Ecomagination. “Are you a part of the purpose-driven future businesses?” was the question put forth by Pragati 2014.

The two day fest saw several events from the six forums namely BIZIT (Systems), Fortune (Finance), GenM (Marketing), Jagriti (Meta – Growth), Ozone (Operations) and Relations (HR). Popular flagship games included Prameya (Business plan), Prajna (Business Quiz) and Crusader (Best Manager).

“Operations games tested the optimizing abilities, the HR games analyzed the thought process; the Finance games that tested the monetary acumen, Marketing games evaluated adaptability and Systems games checked IT skills. As the games heated up, Jagriti added much the needed zest to the fest,” added the student organizing team.

The fest culminated with a session on the sub-theme Business beyond Profit: Pioneering Sectors: Transforming Societies. Dr. Vino Aram, Director of Shanti Ashram, Coimbatore and Mr. Sankara Narayanan, Project Manager, Larson and Turbo, enlightened the young minds with the role of business in multiple sectors healthcare, renewable energy and social-security of women.

“Pragati 2014 offered a compelling platform to see if future leaders can walk the talk, creating positive impact in the world through propelling Business beyond Profits,” noted Soorya Narayan, Student President of Pragati 2014.

Department of Financial Management at Christ University, Bangalore was the fest winners and Mr. Karthick Rajan from Loyola Institute of Business Administration, Chennai won the best manager title Crusader.

“First of all, you people were awesome and the hospitality was phenomenal. We came with no expectations; we go with high regards. Hats off!” shared excited participants.

“It is a live lab experiments for us, as Pragati is turning more and more into a ‘knowledge-share platform’ not only just to compete but network, collaborate and co-create ideas,” rejoiced Amritians.
