In the 74th Annual Conference of the Association of Physicians of India (APICON 2019) held in Kochi, during February 7 – 10, 2019, Dr. Rajesh G., Professor of Gastroenterology, Amrita School of Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, was conferred the Fellowship of the Indian College of Physicians.

Dr. Anisha Ashokan, second year MD Resident in Microbiology, School of Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, won the ‘Best Poster Award’ in the CME on “Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance” at Government Medical College, Palakkad, held on February 2, 2019.
After being referred post-haste from hospitals across the state including Palakkad, Perinthalmanna and Kochi, four patients have successfully undergone surgery for the repair of Type A aortic dissection at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences within a span of just 10 days (January 03 – 12, 2019).

On 28th December 2018, Dr. Subramania Iyer, Chairman and Professor, Plastic Surgery and Head & Neck Surgery, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, was awarded the prestigious SIEMENS- GAPIO (Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) Innovation Award in Medicine for performing ‘Hand Transplant Surgery’ for the first time in India.
A workshop on ‘Fertility Intentions and Contraceptive Practices’ training was organized by the Department of Community Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), the Centre of Excellence and Department of Tribal Affairs, Government of India at Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Meppady, Wayanad district, between October 2nd and 3rd, 2018.
On November 27th, 2018, a team of reconstructive surgeons from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi, was honored by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) at the 9th Indian Organ Donation Day held at New Delhi, for their path-breaking achievement of conducting a ‘Hand Transplant’.
