Supporting the Well-being of Our Faculty and Staff

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham recognizes that mental health and emotional well-being are fundamental to the success and fulfillment of our faculty and staff members. As part of our commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), the university has implemented comprehensive mental health support services specifically designed to address the unique needs of our employees across all campuses.

Holistic Mental Health Services Available to Staff

Individual Counseling Services

Faculty and staff members have access to licensed clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, and professional counselors across all Amrita campuses. These professionals provide confidential, one-on-one counseling sessions to help employees address personal challenges, work-related stress, emotional issues, and life transitions.

Campus-Specific Mental Health Resources:

  • Amritapuri Campus: Staff can approach Dr. Beena at Amrita Kripa Hospital for mental health support, available Monday to Saturday (9 AM to 7 PM). Contact: 0476 289 6179. Services are provided free of charge.
  • Kochi Campus: Clinical psychology and mental health nursing professionals are available for faculty and staff consultation.
  • Coimbatore Campus: Dedicated mental health professionals are accessible through the campus health services.
  • Bengaluru and Mysuru Campuses: Licensed counselors provide personalized support through both walk-in and scheduled appointments.

MAstery Over Mind (MaOM) Program


The university offers the MAstery Over Mind (MaOM) program—a comprehensive meditation and stress management initiative available free to all faculty and staff members. Launched in February 2022 as part of Amrita’s efforts toward UN SDG-3, this program has benefited over 1,000 participants across all six campuses.

Program Features:

  • Weekly meditation sessions led by trained facilitators
  • Four levels of specialized meditation training
  • Emphasis on sustainable stress reduction through ancient Indian meditation techniques
  • Flexible online and in-person participation options
  • Scientifically-backed approaches to managing anxiety, depression, and workplace stress

The MaOM program is based on meditation techniques offered by our Chancellor, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), and focuses on helping participants achieve inner peace, emotional balance, and enhanced concentration—all critical for managing the demands of academic and administrative work.

Amrita Soukhyam: Integrated Wellness Program


Amrita Soukhyam, an integrated wellness program established at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, provides comprehensive health and mental wellness services under one roof. This program is accessible to all university employees and includes:

  • Clinical psychology consultations
  • Psychiatric support
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Ayurvedic wellness therapies
  • Yoga and rehabilitation medicine experts
  • Lifestyle modification guidance for holistic health

The program encourages employees to adopt positive lifestyle changes that promote long-term health, mental clarity, and disease prevention.

Crisis Support and Helpline Services


Recognizing that mental health crises can occur at any time, Amrita maintains 24/7 crisis support capabilities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the university established a mental health helpline staffed by trained Master of Social Work (MSW) students and professional counselors, which received over 500 calls in its first month of operation.S

Support includes

  • Immediate telephonic counseling for urgent mental health needs
  • Triage to higher-level mental health professionals when necessary
  • Confidential support for anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and stress management
  • Referrals to specialized psychiatric and psychological services

Workplace Mental Health Education


Amrita offers specialized training and workshops on workplace mental health through its academic programs and professional development initiatives. Faculty and staff can participate in:
