Abstract : The rapid growth in the usage of non-linear loads such as Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Induction motors etc. affects the power quality in the system. Some of the major power quality problems in the distribution system are voltage flickers, harmonics, power loss etc. In this paper a time domain model of EAF is proposed and designed, which uses an Active Power Filter (APF) for injection of current in the distribution system. PI controller and Hysteresis controller has been designed in this paper for control of APF. The performance of APF based EAF model is proposed and analyzed for three phase system and verified by the simulation in MATLAB/SIMULINK for.
