Abstract : The global COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the critical need for innovative approaches in leveraging advanced technologies to combat the virus’s spread and mitigate its impact on society. This chapter presents a case study that explores the synergies between Industry 4.0 principles and computational intelligence techniques as powerful tools in the fight against COVID-19. Industry 4.0 is all about connecting machines to the internet and to each other so that they function more efficiently as a group, and data-driven decision-making provides a robust framework for transforming traditional industries. Computational intelligence, encompassing machine learning, artificial intelligence, and optimization algorithms, offers intelligent solutions for data analysis, prediction, and decision support. The case study investigates incorporating Industry 4.0 technology, which includes real-time monitoring, data analysis, and smart detectors, in the context of a comprehensive COVID-19 response strategy. Computational intelligence methods are employed to analyze large datasets, model virus transmission dynamics, and optimize resource allocation. The integration of these technologies facilitates proactive and adaptive measures in healthcare, supply chain management, and public health interventions. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of Industry 4.0 and computational intelligence in enhancing system agility and resilience during public health crises. It demonstrates their capacity to improve situational awareness, optimize resource utilization, and enable data-driven decision-making, highlighting the potential for addressing immediate health concerns and building adaptive systems for future challenges.
