From June 16th to 20th, 2025, the Malaviya Mission Teachers Training Centre (MMTTC), in collaboration with Amrita-MZU STI Hub Mizoram, Women’s Studies Centre, Mizoram University, Food Technology Department, Mizoram University, and State Agriculture Management & Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), successfully hosted an intensive 5-day training on food processing.
Held at STI Office HQ and STI Hub, Mizoram University, the program’s core objective was to equip women entrepreneurs, SHG members, and homemakers with practical skills in food processing, business development, and regulatory compliance. Modules included entrepreneurship skills (communication, managerial, GST), diverse food processing techniques (preservation, baking, fermentation), and crucial food safety & labeling standards.
A key highlight was the hands-on session at the STI Hub’s food-processing facilities, where participants learned to prepare butter pound cake, moringa-infused cookies, ginger-based beverages, and ginger candy. This initiative directly supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing comprehensive training in food processing and entrepreneurship, champions SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by empowering women with economic opportunities, and aligns with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by equipping participants with skills for sustainable livelihoods.
Expert resource persons from various organizations provided invaluable mentorship and technical expertise. The training was significantly bolstered by the diverse and invaluable contributions of our expert resource persons. We extend our sincere gratitude to Angel Business Promoters of Mizoram for business mentorship, SAMETI Mizoram for insights into agricultural extension and market linkages, UGC representatives for guidance on entrepreneurship policy frameworks, and the Food Technology Department, Mizoram University, for crucial technical expertise. This collaborative approach aligns perfectly with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, de
monstrating the power of multi-stakeholder collaboration in achieving development objectives.
The overwhelmingly positive feedback affirms the program’s success in empowering Mizoram’s aspiring entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in home-based food businesses. We encourage participants to continue utilizing the excellent facilities at STI Hub and the Food Technology Department at Mizoram University. By fostering these micro-enterprises, the initiative also indirectly supports SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
