The College of Nursing at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Faridabad conducted a comprehensive 4-day event on Nutrition Practical for the 2nd semester B.Sc. Nursing students. The event was designed to provide hands-on experience in preparing balanced and therapeutic diets for various age groups and conditions, empowering future nurses with essential nutritional knowledge and skills.
In the workshop students focused on Nourishing the Foundations of Life with practical lessons on Balanced Diet for Children up to 5 Years & Therapeutic Diet for Malnutrition. The students created nutrient-rich meals tailored to the needs of young children and malnourished individuals, using age-appropriate cooking methods that support healthy growth and recovery.
The theme of the day 2 was Fueling the Everyday Worker, with the students preparing Balanced Diet for Adults with Sedentary Lifestyles & Therapeutic Diet for Hypertension. The practical session focused on creating heart-healthy meals for adults engaged in low-activity work, with a special emphasis on managing hypertension through smart food choices. The day was made even more insightful with a guest lecture by Dr. B. K. Mishra, Principal of Amrita School of Medicine, who shared valuable perspectives on the connection between nutrition and heart health.
The third day, was dedicated to Aging Gracefully Through Nutrition, where the students focused on Balanced Diet for the Elderly & Therapeutic Diet for Diabetes Mellitus. Students crafted easy-to-digest, diabetic-friendly meals designed to promote vitality and blood sugar control in older adults, addressing their unique nutritional needs.
The final day, highlighted Nutrition for New Beginnings, where students prepared Balanced Diet for Pregnant Women & Therapeutic Diet for Anemia. Special emphasis was placed on designing iron-rich meals for pregnant mothers, ensuring maternal health and preventing anemia during pregnancy through balanced and nutritious meal planning.
This enriching event not only gave the students an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-life scenarios but also strengthened their ability to craft diets tailored to different stages of life and health conditions. The workshop was a major step forward in developing well-rounded, competent nurses who can effectively contribute to the well-being of their patients through nutrition and care.
