Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has set a clear goal to power all campus operations with 100% renewable energy by 2035, aligning with global sustainability targets and reinforcing the leadership role universities must play in advancing clean-energy transitions. Demonstrating this commitment, students and faculty from all campuses united to publicly pledge their support for a renewable-energy future, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility across the institution.

This collective pledge was made during the National Service Scheme (NSS) Energy Conservation Week, held from 27–30 November 2024 at Amrita’s Ettimadai campus in Coimbatore, where participants reaffirmed their dedication to a sustainable and climate-conscious future.

At Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, we pledge to lead the transition to 100% renewable energy not only on our campuses but also in the broader community. Guided by our commitment to climate action and global sustainability, we dedicate ourselves to creating a future powered by clean energy through the following key initiatives:

• We pledge to install rooftop solar panels across all campuses, meeting up to 50% of our energy needs within the next decade.
• We will explore wind and hybrid energy systems, implementing feasibility studies and pilot programs within three years to reduce dependency on non-renewable sources.
• Beyond our campuses, we aim to serve as a model for institutions and communities to replicate these renewable energy solutions.

• We will partner with renewable energy suppliers through Green Power Purchase Agreements, sourcing clean energy from wind and solar farms within five years.
• By collaborating with governmental and non-governmental organizations, we pledge to promote renewable energy projects in local, national, and global contexts, encouraging communities to join the clean energy movement.

• On campus, we commit to upgrading infrastructure with energy-efficient technologies, targeting a 20-30% reduction in energy demand.
• We will inspire energy-saving practices among the university community, reducing consumption by 10% immediately and sustaining these efforts over time.
• Through outreach, we aim to extend these conservation practices to households, institutions, and communities beyond our campuses.

• We pledge to lead public campaigns raising awareness about the importance and benefits of renewable energy, launching these initiatives within the next year.
• By offering workshops and courses on renewable energy technologies, we will empower individuals and communities to adopt sustainable practices and lead the clean energy revolution.

During AYUDH Europe’s 20th European Youth Forum held in Germany (July 2024), the UNESCO Chair on Experiential Learning for Sustainable Innovation and Development and the Amrita School for Sustainable Futures, in collaboration with AYUDH International, led the “Every Watt Counts” Energy Conservation Pledge.

Through this international initiative, over 1,000 community members are committed to adopting energy-efficient and responsible electricity-use practices, demonstrating youth-led global action on energy conservation through cross-border collaboration.

To ensure accountability and inspire widespread action, we pledge to:

• Conduct annual energy audits to track progress toward renewable energy goals.
• Publish annual reports to highlight achievements, challenges, and updated strategies, sharing insights with other institutions and communities.

Through this pledge, we aim to:

• Achieve substantial carbon emission reductions, contributing to global climate goals both on and beyond our campuses.
• Lower operational costs and promote economic benefits of renewable energy solutions.
• Serve as a catalyst for change, inspiring institutions, communities, and individuals to embrace renewable energy and sustainable practices worldwide.
