Abstract :

Agriculture has played an important role in global industrial development, employment, economic growth and providing sustainable food. Intensified agriculture aims to maximize the crop production by employing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers to overcome nutritional restrictions on farmed plants. Excess cost-effective agrochemicals are often applied to crops in anticipation of higher yields. The improper use of fertilizers deteriorates the ecological environment and endangers human health. Agriculture 4.0 aims to make farming more planned, predictive, and productive while employing digital technology. From a technical standpoint, this leads to “Precision agriculture”. The paper aims at developing an intelligent assistance that combines crop recommendation model and auto-fertigation system. The crop recommendation module accepts the soil NPK values, relative humidity, temperature, rainfall and pH values to recommend the suitable crop. The precision fertigation involves application of fertilization at adequate level. The fertigation module determines the deficit NPK values and suggests the stages and duration in which the fertilization is applied. The proposed system involves a webpage that displays the farmers with the recommended crop, required fertigation stages and duration, and the status of fertigation. The subsystems of the proposed model are tested for different case studies to analyze the effective operation. The proposed system provides a holistic approach in modernizing agriculture, guiding farmers in efficient fertilization and taking sustainable decisions.
