Bio

Dr. Nikhil Prabhu is a medical physiologist and cognitive neuroscientist with vast and varied research experience in several reputed research labs in India and abroad. He specializes in the brain’s control of movement, with a focus on neuroimaging. He holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the International Max Planck Research School for Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience (IMPRS), Tübingen, Germany, and a Master’s in Medical Physiology from KMC, Manipal. His doctoral research provided novel insights into the motor functions of the human superior colliculus using fMRI, advancing the understanding of movement generation and its relevance to movement disorders like Parkinson’s disease.

His academic and research experience includes working on honeybees, songbirds, monkeys and humans with stints at ETH Zurich, Hebrew University of Jerusalem Israel, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), National Center for Biological Sciences (NCBS) and International Center for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS). He also possesses industrial research experience, having spent a couple of years at a neurotech startup working on EEG.

His current research interests include studying human cognition and movements with intracranial electrodes and psychophysics, fMRI data analysis, EEG source localization using deep learning among others.
