Abstract :
With the increased penetration of renewable sources, the load frequency control system should ensure an effective operation in breaking the challenges associated with intermittent nature of renewable sources. This paper analyses the contribution of generating units in meeting the violated demand deploying load frequency controller, while causing the least deviation in system frequencies and tie line power. Two-area load frequency control system having solar thermal and thermal units in each area is developed in MATLAB SIMULINK. The system is incorporated with Proportional-Integral-Derivative controller determined using Ziegler Nichols, Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swam Optimization. The study is conducted during violation under constant and varying irradiance. The models are analyzed, and the best model is suggested based on the performance index and time response specification.
