Abstract : The phenomenon photocatalysis in quantum dots (QDs), has attracted interest in utilising their potential to tackle some of the world’s most urgent problems, such as the energy crisis, environmental problems, and illnesses like cancer. Innovations in photocatalysis are greatly aided by the special phenomenon of quantum confinement and the electrical properties of QDs. Strategic structural manipulation of quantum dots through doping or functionalisation has opened new possibilities to modify their quantum electronic structures for improved photocatalytic selectivity. The incorporation of dopants and co-dopants in QDs and their impact on the optical properties are highlighted. This review focuses different mechanistic action of photocatalytic QDs. The effect of both dopants and co-dopants was analysed in detail to account the precision and versatility. Finally, the various applications of the quantum dots are discussed.
