Qualification

  • Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Psychiatric Social Work, or related mental health discipline (required) 

  • MPhil in Clinical/Counseling Psychology strongly preferred

  • Registration with Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) or appropriate professional body preferred

  • Specialized training in crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, or DBT/CBT approaches

  • Familiarity with student development theory and developmental challenges of emerging adults

  • Publication or presentation experience in college mental health or related areas

Job description The Counsellor will provide advanced clinical services and support the leadership and quality of the University Counselling Centre, along with Faculty responsibilities in the Department of Psychology, SSBS, as assigned.
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-informed counselling, assessment, intake, referrals and interventions, including for complex/high-risk cases involving trauma, suicidal ideation and self-harm.

  • Conduct risk assessments, crisis intervention and safety planning. Mentor junior counsellors in assessment, interventions, documentation, ethics and professional practice.

  • Lead psychoeducation, workshops, outreach and mental health awareness; develop resources and train peer educators/student leaders.

  • Collaborate with faculty and departments on student concerns, referrals and supportive learning environments.

  • Build referral networks with hospitals, psychiatrists, therapists and other providers; coordinate referrals and follow-up with consent.

  • Ensure confidentiality, ethical practice, documentation, risk management and compliance with RCI and University standards.

  • Monitor service data, outcomes and records; support reporting and quality improvement.

  • Manage caseloads, scheduling and service delivery, and undertake clinical supervision and teaching responsibilities as assigned.

Experience

  • Relevant professional qualification and experience in counselling/clinical practice, preferably in a university/college setting.

  • Experience in complex/high-risk cases, crisis intervention and evidence-informed therapeutic approaches.

  • Experience in programme development, psychoeducation, outreach and mentoring/supervision.

  • Strong communication, leadership, organisation, documentation and ethical judgment.

  • Compassionate, culturally responsive, resilient and student-centred approach with strong English communication skills.
