Abstract : Photovoltaic (PV) energy systems require efficient DC-DC converters to handle wide input voltage variations while maintaining reliable and high-efficiency operation. This paper presents a comparative study of a PV-fed non-isolated boost converter and an isolated half-bridge LLC resonant converter under comparable operating conditions. Mathematical modeling and simulation are used to look at key performance aspects such as voltage gain, efficiency, switching losses, dynamic response, control complexity, and PV -side current behavior. The boost converter offers simple control and fast transient response, making it suitable for low- to medium-power applications, but suffers from higher losses and current ripple at high gain. In contrast, the LLC converter provides higher efficiency, soft-switching operation, galvanic isolation, and improved power density, making it suitable for high-power PV systems.
