Abstract : Variation in the load drastically changes the frequency and voltage in the power system which may even lead to severe contingencies and blackouts. Automatic Generation Control (AGC) can be used to minimize these deviations with the limit to maintain the stability of the system. This paper discusses about the variation in frequency and power flow in two area system when the load in these area changes and also shows the importance of selection of regulation characteristics of the generating units in these deviations. Area control error (ACE) in AGC always helps to maintain the tie-line power flow to zero at steady state in a multi area system. Analysis of tie-line bias control in two area system has been investigated in the paper which is demonstrated with the help of Matlab/Simulink model.
