Center for Excellence on Integrated Nanomaterial based Photovoltaic Storage Devices

Center for Research and Education in Solar Energy Generation and Storage

This center established in 2008 with funding from DST to develop a high efficiency solar cell based on the use of nanostructured electrodes and a dye sensitized approach. Currently this research involves a combination of the use of organic and dye sensitized approaches to improve the efficiency and reduce the cost of the solar cells.

In 2009 the center received funding from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for research in integrated solar energy and storage systems. Currently this center funds an M.Tech program in Nanosolar Technologies and also a research program to develop integrated technologies using nanomaterials.

The primary R&D focus is the combining of the solar cells and super capacitor components either within a single cell or within a single panel.

The target is to provide a solar panel that can store energy without the use of external batteries with a storage capacity in excess of those Li-Ion batteries. In 2009, the center received funding from MNRE for research in integrated solar energy and storage systems. Currently this program funds a research program to develop integrated technologies using nanomaterials.
