The Robotics Club under the department of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri Campus undertakes important projects such as such as Amrita–ISRO Soft Moon Lander, Amrita Surya Vahini, Robotic Gripper Driven by Flexible Microactuator, Flexible soft micro-gripper, Micro Walking Robot Prototyped, Under Water Robot, a Solar Car and a Robo-Doc for Telemedicine Applications. The Solar Car project is an inter-disciplinary project that includes students from the departments of Mechanical and Electronics Engineering. The Automobile Club under AME is undertaking a project on an Eco-friendly car.

Lakshya- The Association Inauguration

 

The Association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, ‘Lakshya’ was inaugurated on Thursday, September 1, 2005. The Chief Guest at the function was Prof. V. Radhakrishna, Director (Research), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore. Also present on the occasion were Amritapuri Campus Director Br. Sudeep, Dean Prof K.B.M. Nambudiripad, and Principal, School of Engineering Prof. K. Sankaran. Prof. Radhakrishna gave a talk on the new emerging areas in the field of Mechanical Engineering which was followed by a talk on Nanotechnology by Dr. Ganesha Udupa, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering. In the afternoon there was creative design competition among the students of Semester-3 Mechanical Engineering. There was also a quiz competition co-ordinated by Mr. S. Hari Kishore, Lecturer and a group task competition co-ordinated by Mr. V. Siju, Lecturer followed by a cultural programme in the evening co-ordinated by Mr. R. Rajesh, Mr. C. H. Ratheesh, Mr. M. Anil Kumar and Ms. M.S. Lekshmi , Lecturers, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The aim of the association is to provide a value based knowledge and creative skills to the students to make them understand and implement in their future engineering careers. This is planned to be achieved by providing the students much needed exposure to the various fields that they can pursue after their graduation in Mechanical Engineering. By helping them identify their interests and providing them the essential means by which they can pursue their interests earnestly. By constantly motivating, inspiring and encouraging them to give their best. By providing them opportunities to exhibit their talents and skills and space to improve. By infusing in them an attitude of excellence and selfless service to society. The association also plans to conduct lecture series on topics of general interest and seminars on topics of specific interest, arrange industrial tours and visits, conducting activities that aims at developing the all round abilities for both the students and the members, to take up projects that aims to improve the living conditions of the society, organize and participate in technical events, establishing and maintaining contacts with other mechanical engineering associations of various institutions.

The association has an executive council that takes critical decisions regarding its functioning. It is guided by a set of rules and regulations that helps in the smooth running of the association. Its members are
