Data Collection- Sources of Data. Concept of universe, sample, sampling unit and source list. Types of sampling frame – Probability and non-probability

Unit 2

Methods of data collection

Methods of data collection: interview, observation, case study and focus group discussion. Tools of data collection- interview schedule, interview guide, questionnaire, observation guide. Data processing: editing, coding and presentation (graphical and tabular) – research reports: academic research report. Ethical Data Collection and Processing.

Unit 3

Data Management, Presentation and Report Writing

Data processing: editing and coding. Data organization and presentation – tabular and graphical, Data analysis and interpretation. Writing research reports. AI for Data Processing and Reporting

Pre-requisites: Familiarity nature of social science research and its application in the study of social phenomena.

Course Objectives

1. To introduce students to fundamental concepts of sampling, data sources, and frameworks in social science research.
2. To equip learners with skills in applying qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection using appropriate tools.
3. To develop competencies in data processing, including editing, coding, organizing, and presenting data in tabular and graphical forms.
4. To enable students to analyse, interpret data, and prepare structured academic research reports.
