Unit 1

Introduction to Computer Systems and Networks

Hardware and software components; Data and storage formats; Internet and connectivity; Devices and connectivity; Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (Meaning and scope of Artificial Intelligence (AI); Evolution of AI from rule-based systems to generative models; Distinction between AI, Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL); Applications of AI in social work, education, health, and governance.)

Unit 2

Internet, Cloud, and Communications

Introduction to the Internet and its significance; Internet navigation through browsers, URLs, search engines, and websites; Email basics and best practices

Unit 3

Basic Softwares, Applications and Technologies Usage

Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Maps; Geotagging; Software Installation and Uninstallation; Miro Mind Map (brainstorming, organizing complex research, and collaborative analysis by visually linking concepts, data, and research questions); Introduction to Immersive Technologies (AR, VR, haptics, etc.).

Unit 4

File Management and File Sharing

Cloud storage and file sharing; understanding files and folders; organizing and managing digital files.

Objectives and Outcomes

Course Objectives:

  1. By the end of the course, students should have a basic understanding of computer systems, software, and digital tools.
  2. To provide learners with essential knowledge and abilities related to digital and AI-driven technologies for effective information management.
  3. To sensitize students to the role of technology and artificial intelligence in social work practice.
  4. To develop practical competence in using common digital applications and collaborative tools for data organization, communication, and analysis.

  • CO1: Understands the basics of computer systems and acquires the ability to effectively utilise hardware and software facilities.
  • CO2: Acquires Digital literacy proficiency to manage and share information
  • CO3: Applies basic software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Miro) for document creation, data analysis, and collaborative work
  • CO4: Recognizes the applications and implications of AI technologies in digital literacy, data management, and social work contexts.
