Introduction

This course is designed to develop students competencies in academic writing, research dissemination, and ethical publication practices in social work. Each student is required to co-author a research paper with their supervising faculty and submit the manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal or academic conference. The course emphasizes step-by-step scholarly writing, peer review, ethical authorship, and submission processes.

Objectives and Outcomes

Course Objectives

  • To train students in transforming a completed research project into a publishable scholarly paper.
  • To develop skills in academic writing, argumentation, and evidence-based presentation.
  • To familiarize students with journal and conference selection, author guidelines, and submission protocols.
  • To promote ethical research dissemination, authorship norms, and plagiarism-free writing.
  • To support collaborative writing and mentorship through faculty–student co-authorship.

Course Outcomes

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Structure a research manuscript suitable for journals or academic conferences in social work.
  2. Write clear and coherent sections including abstract, introduction, methodology, results, and discussion.
  3. Apply appropriate referencing styles and publication ethics standards.
  4. Revise manuscripts based on peer and supervisor feedback.
  5. Submit a co-authored paper to a recognized journal or conference.
