The Department of Community Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi endeavors to serve the dual purpose of evolving cost effective primary health care to the community through its rural and urban training health centers and providing value-based medical education, by following a student friendly, need oriented and evidence based curriculum.

The Department of Community Medicine provides quality medical education to undergraduate MBBS students and prepares them to function as community physicians. The vision of the department is to enhance people’s health through innovation, education and research.

The mission of the department is

  • To provide training to medical students and health care professionals in public health
  • To promote research for innovative , indigenous solutions of health care problems
  • To assist in translation of knowledge into policy and actions

The department also runs postgraduate programs like MD Community Medicine, MPH, Executive MPH, and training for other allied sciences.

Scope of Our Work

  • The rural and urban training health centers under the department provides promotive, preventive and curative health services to the community and training for students in theory and practice of community medicine.
  • We work in close coordination and collaboration with Local Self Government, District Administration and State Health services across Kerala in Planning, Implementing and Evaluating various aspects of Health care
  • Our Faculty and Residents actively participate in Public Health activities in various parts of India and across the world

The Department collaborates with various national and international organizations such as WHO, UNICEF, ICMR etc on various research projects. The faculty members are instrumental in designing and conduct of various epidemiological studies.
