ESIC Medical College & Hospital, Faridabad | June–September 2026

Engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, practical training and laboratory-based clinical microbiology. Responsibilities included teaching, academic assessments, mentoring postgraduate students and strengthening the integration of laboratory diagnostics with clinical practice. Areas of academic and professional focus included antimicrobial susceptibility testing, diagnostic stewardship, infection prevention and control, antimicrobial resistance surveillance and laboratory quality assurance.

Scientist, Antimicrobial Resistance Department

World Health Organization, Geneva | October 2022–December 2025

Worked on global initiatives to strengthen diagnostic capacity, antimicrobial resistance surveillance and the appropriate use of microbiological investigations in clinical practice. Led the development of WHO diagnostic stewardship guidance for infectious syndromes, coordinating evidence reviews, expert consultations and guideline development processes.

Contributed to the WHO AMR Diagnostic Initiative, including strategic and operational frameworks for strengthening bacteriology and mycology diagnostic services, laboratory networks and quality systems. Supported the design and implementation of national bloodstream infection prevalence surveys and the development of indicators for monitoring laboratory capacity and AMR surveillance. Contributed to several WHO technical publications, policy documents and operational guidance relating to AMR, diagnostic capacity and health systems strengthening. Provided technical support to Member States and collaborated with international experts and partner organizations.

Lead and Regional Clinical Microbiologist

Fleming Fund Programme / Mott MacDonald | January 2019–October 2022

Provided technical leadership for strengthening national AMR surveillance systems and microbiology laboratory capacity in low- and middle-income countries. Initially served as Regional Clinical Microbiologist for South Asia and subsequently as Lead Clinical Microbiologist across four programme regions covering 24 countries in Asia and Africa.

Responsibilities included laboratory capacity assessments, technical support for national reference laboratories and surveillance sites, laboratory quality assurance, workforce development and strengthening diagnostic practices. Contributed to the design, implementation and monitoring of country programmes aligned with national AMR action plans and international standards. Worked closely with national governments, implementing partners and international organizations.

Clinical Microbiologist and Laboratory In-Charge

Indian Army Medical Services | 2004–2018

Held progressively responsible appointments managing clinical microbiology laboratories and hospital laboratory services at military hospitals across India and Bhutan. The final appointment was as Clinical Microbiologist at Command Hospital, Lucknow, a large tertiary-care teaching hospital.

Responsibilities included microbiological diagnosis of infectious diseases, laboratory management, quality assurance, infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship and formulation of hospital antibiotic policies. Provided clinical consultation, supported infection control activities and supervised laboratory personnel. Participated in research projects involving antimicrobial resistance, carbapenem resistance mechanisms and nontuberculous mycobacterial infections.

Assistant/ Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology

Armed Forces Medical College, Pune | July 2012–February 2017

Engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, practical instruction, academic assessments, research and postgraduate dissertation guidance. Participated in medical education training and faculty development activities. Research interests included antimicrobial resistance, molecular characterization of resistance mechanisms and rapid identification of mycobacteria.
