Qualification (M.Sc.) in Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Applied Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related Life Sciences / Candidates with a Bachelor's degree and relevant practical experience in microbiology may also be considered.
Job description Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Water Systems and Environmental Microbiology Candidates with practical experience, adaptability, and a willingness to work in diverse field settings will be preferred.
Responsibilities

  • Collect environmental water samples from ponds, canals, rivers, wells, and drinking-water distribution systems.

  • Perform microbial culture, bacterial isolation, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

  • Assist with DNA extraction and PCR-based detection of antimicrobial resistance genes.

  • Follow appropriate sample handling, laboratory safety, and biosafety procedures.

  • Maintain field and laboratory records and assist with data analysis and technical reporting.

  • Coordinate with project teams and stakeholders to facilitate research activities.

  • Assist with data entry, preliminary analysis, literature review, and preparation of technical reports and research outputs.
Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of microbiological techniques and laboratory practices.

  • Understanding of aseptic procedures and sample handling.

  • Good organisational, communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.

  • Basic computer skills for data entry, record management, and reporting.

  • Willingness to undertake frequent field visits and travel as required
Desirable Skills

  • Hands-on experience in environmental water sampling and water microbiology.

  • Experience in microbial culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

  • Familiarity with DNA extraction, PCR, and gel electrophoresis.

  • Exposure to AMR research, environmental health, or water-quality assessment.

  • Familiarity with GPS-enabled data collection and digital field-survey tools.
