Abstract : Integration of non-dispatchable Renewable Energy Resources (RES) to the utility grid is one of the challenging issue faced by the power system engineers. The quality of power supplied to the customer, power system security and protection are few of the major issues that hinders the development of more efficient control logic in integration of renewable energy sources to the grid. The integration unit of RES with additional features can mitigate the power quality issues present in the grid such as current distortion, voltage distortion, current and voltage harmonics issues etc,. In this work a STATCOM unit is chosen as the interfacing unit with two different control algorithms to verify their performance in different modes of operation such as day time mode with real power sharing from RES to grid with power quality improvement and night time mode without real power sharing from RES to grid with power quality improvement. The proposed STATCOM interface unit PV system has been modeled and results are validates using MATLAB (2015) simulation platform.
