Abstract :

In modern web and mobile applications, APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) facilitate easy communication between servers and customers. APIs are however common victims of attacks including injections, unauthorized access, misuse, and data manipulations. Classic log mechanisms are not tamper proof and therefore do not facilitate reliable forensic examination. Poor authentication and absence of real time monitoring also expose systems to risk. APIs also tend to be attacked through malignant IP addresses and without a reputation based monitoring mechanism organizations find it challenging to effectively thwart detrimental traffic. This paper presents an Advanced API Security and Monitoring System built specifically to deal with these problems. This system combines capabilities such as JWT based authentication, threat monitoring, IP reputation tracking, rate limiting and safe header enforcement as protection measures against cyber attacks. It makes use of cryptographic techniques to ensure log integrity through API request hash checking and real-time anomaly detection. Distributed tracing also increases API activity transparency while Elasticsearch offers horizontally scalable log monitoring. In addition, the system retains a complete audit trail through the logging of all incoming API responses and requests. Through the integration of live monitoring, automatic integrity checking and proactive defenses, this system increases API security providing tamper-resistant logging, robust attack prevention and solid access control while preserving system performance and compliance. © 2025 IEEE.
