Abstract : The International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC) IEC 61000-4-2 standard is commonly followed for carrying out the Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) test. An ESD coaxial current target-attenuator-cable chain is specified in the IEC 61000-4-2 edition 2 standard, to measure the discharge currents of ESD generators. In this paper, a method for the calibration of low-frequency transfer impedance of ESD target-attenuator-cable measurement chain is proposed. The proposed method is based on insertion loss measurement of the measurement chain using a vector network analyzer (VNA). Measurement results obtained by proposed insertion loss method and low frequency transfer impedance method as per IEC 61000-4-2 Ed. 2 standard are compared and presented in this paper.
