Abstract : The global energy demands are ever on the rise, demanding cleaner energy technologies to meet ends. Energy storage technologies help in the effective utilization of natural sources of energy. They aid in overcoming the drawbacks of intermittent sources of energy. Batteries and supercapacitors dominate the energy storage sector. Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are a class of materials explored extensively due to their enriched surface and optoelectronic properties. This chapter focuses on the interesting properties of CQDs, graphene quantum dots, and the composites that help in increasing the charge storage properties. Also, the role of CQDs solely and as organic and inorganic composite is discussed. Various CQD supercapacitors and metal-ion batteries are presented with future scope.
