Abstract : Tribes are one of the major contributors for the diversified culture of India and their development is essential for country’s development. This study aims to understand the pattern of diseases among tribes in Nilgiris district and their health care practices. This study emphasizes on Survey research and non-probability sampling is applied in which respondents are selected using convenient sampling. The study was conducted among 94 respondents from Gudalur taluk, Pandalur taluk and Kotagiri block of Nilgiris district. The data was collected using semi-structured interview schedule and analysed. The findings of the study shows that more than half (55.5%) of the respondents are affected by non-communicable diseases and 44.5% are affected by chronic diseases. More than half of the respondents (56.4%) defecate in open and majority (87.7%) of the respondents have the habit of using substances and 80.9% of the respondents are not having the knowledge of the disease they are suffering.
